Am I allowed to say, "Did you read your Bible today?"
John Frattiani asks me the same question every week when I see him at church. That and, "You want to go to Jimmy John's?"
But it shows me that John's focus on Sunday mornings is in God's Word. But while I'm talking to him, any number of Junior High/High School boys will come up to me and ask, "Did you see the game last night?"

I love this blog because I love my family and this is pretty much the only chance I have to communicate with my brothers who are living spread across the country: Peter, Nate, Thomas. I don't really even take the opportunity to spend time with Matt like I should and rely on this blog to hear from him.
So what do we talk about? Movies? Music? Sports?
There's nothing wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with talking about what we love. And it's the undeniable truth that we Crums love movies and music and (some of us) sports.
Do we love God?
The Bible says that from the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. That we are to declare to the nations the good things that God has done for us.
God gave me a mother and father who love me and love Him, brothers who forgive me when I give them black eyes, brothers with the self-control to stop themselves from giving ME black eyes. He's given me life and breath and health and everything that I have.
When I post about music and movies and sports and NOT God, I am worshipping the creature and not the Creator.
Maybe this isn't the place for this kind of a post, maybe I should have put it on my blog where you wouldn't have to read it. Maybe you aren't reading it. But it needs to be said, and it's not just a topic for intellectual discussion. We should not be able to keep silent from praising God for the good things He has done. If we do, the rocks will cry out.
This, as I said earlier, is pretty much the only communication I have with my brothers. And I really don't care about your opinion on sports and movies and music COMPARED to your testimony of God's work in your life.
There's something worth talking about.

It's a blog! I think that it's a great place to talk about God, our walk with him, if we've been reading the Bible as much as we should, etc...
But, we are Crum's and there ain't nothing wrong with posting about movies and music. This is us. It's what we like to discuss with each other. We all have different opinions on every movie and every band, and we as Crums love to argue, and so we can blog, and even though were hundreds of miles apart, we still have the chance to argue. I don't know why we argue so much. Maybe we could argue about that. All I know is that this is our blog, and we can post about whatever we want.
We aren't "worshipping" Coldplay or the director of Lucky Number Slevin when we talk about them or post about them. I don't even think that we are leaving God out of our bloging. Peter's post about movie's always give a christian perspective. I think that God is coming through what we talk about. Otherwise we wouldn't have had the debate about Walk The Line.
Sorry for this long post...
I love talking/writing on blogs, no matter what the topic. God is and should be most important in everyone's life, that doesn't mean He needs to be at the heat of every discussion we have. I agree with Nate that often times He is at the center of a discussion, and sure it never hurts to have God the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit in more conversations, but that depends on the author of the post. I think in every post on here you can find God's works, whether in a soccer players skills, a dog and human acting alike, nature, Nate's stories, and much more. I hate to argue so i agree with everyone!! To god be the glory great things He hath done!!
Nate,
I KNOW what we as Crums "like to discuss with each other." (I am a Crum) What I'm concerned about is the apparent lack of any desire to discuss the Work of God in our lives.
There's a difference between the morality of our culture and our direct, personal experiences with the grace of God.
You'll havee to break down that last sentence for me Jon... I'm one of the not so smart Crum's.
Jon, I think you're confusing our blog with our lives. Just because we don't directly discuss how our prayer lives or our struggles with pornography are going on our blog doesn't mean that they are not the "real" issues in our lives.
I think you're right. I think that many of the things that we do discuss, though they could be part of our praise of God, are often idols. But I don't know what you want? Do you want a Bible study blog?
Jon, I talked to Michal about this yesterday and here's what we both think: Blog's aren't the best place for that kind of discussion (though it can still work) and just becuase we write about movies and music (aka, things we are interested in) doesn't mean that we aren't interested in other things and doesn't mean that they are idols that we need to give up.
I never said about giving anything up.
Maybe I should.
"On that law he meditates day and night."
I just am upset at the *apparent* imbalance in our lives.
Sometimes older brothers don't have all the answers, and there are definitely things that we can learn from our younger siblings. In this case I believe that we should at the very least examine ourselves. Not to sound too Forrest Gumpy, but perhaps both sides are right at the same time... In our blogging, which is a form of expression as well as communication, lets build each other up, and share our interests and Crumness. I can only speak for myself, but my heart tells me Jon's onto something, and that's all I have to say about that.
