Do You "Walk The Line"?

What does it really mean to "walk the line"? To walk the line means to keep a straight focus to what is important in your life. Here are a few ideas of what it means that I came up with: It can refer to staying on the right track religiously, by maintaining a good relationship with Jesus; finding the personal relationships throughout life that are best for you, finding the soul mate God has planned for you, or just in everyday interaction with people you meet. Through personal, recent, experiences with Kalie Estrada I have realized that you can't take things for granted, because taking things for granted means you have strayed from that line that you should be walking on; as in the greatsest movie ever made, John, played by Joaquin Phoenix, makes mistakes that stray him far from the path he should be walking. Drugs, sex, and other temptations can lead you astray so quickly you don't even realize you have sinned. I think although it is definitely a secular movie it has a lot of good qualities to it, by showing what types of things are right and wrong, and how the wrong things can keep you from "walking the line". Although I think the movie was done to the highest possible standards, the more I hear the music the more I fall in love with the movie, and John ny Cash. My favorite is "Wildwood Flower" sung by Reese Witherspoon, acting as June Carter. The movie is awesome, and i thank Matt for showing it to us. I now own the movie, and the soundtrack, and love to watch and listen to them both. I think the movie can teach you good things, and i hope that when I die I can meet Johnny Cash, if he is in heaven. I really recommend to all those who haven't seen the movie to go rent or buy it, and watch it as many times as you want. It's worth it!!

You got it all figured out. This is one of my favorite movies, and easily my favorite soundtrack of all time. It does have a good message and I too hope to meet Johhny one day (if he's in heaven).

I'm just wondering, did this movie make anyone start listening to Johnny Cash? I hear everyone say they love the soundtrack, but isn't it just remakes of Johnny Cash songs intended to sound as close as possible to Johnny Cash? So why not listen to actual Johnny Cash. That's like saying that "I Am Sam" is the best Beatles album.

i do listen to Johnny Cash too. The songs that he has done that aren't in the movie. I personaly think Joaquin sounds better. Just my opinion though.

Ben you might totally disagree with this but I think that some artists can actually perform another artist's song...better. I like "Blackbird" by Sarah Mc.... from I Am Sam, and I deffinitly like the Walk the Line Soundtrack better than actual Johnny and June Carter Cash songs. Other's that come to mind are "I Started A Joke" by The Wallflowers (originally by The Bee Gees) and several Nirvana remakes from the Unplugged album...Lake of Fire, Plateau, Man Who Sold the World etc... Just my opinion, give me your thoughts!!

I like the Walk The Line songs better than the originals, but I have listened now to some Johnny Cash, and that's more than I ever did.

I think you're right Matt, there are times that a cover sounds way better (both Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright cover Hallelujah which sucked by the original artist, Leonard Cohen). I don't agree on Blackbird, but I see what you're saying. I just thought it was funny that Thomas said he wants to meet Johnny, when who he really likes is Joaquin!

Just throwing it out on the stoop to see if the cat licks it up...

Hey i like both...Joaquin is acting a role, so faking in a way. that mean that Johnny Cash is the real role model, in a way, of this story. I like Joaquin and Reese much better. I have downloaded all the songs off limewire, and I listen to them al the time. the real June Carter sucked. I have some of Ben's Johnny cash on the computer already and I listen to those some. So I agree with Nate and Matt on Joaquins sound over Johnny.

Ah ha! This brings me to my real problem with the film (that I think Jon has addressed somewhere). Do you know more about Johnny Cash because you have seen Walk the Line? Do you know more about Jesus by watching The Passion of the Christ? No, what you get is one persons spin. I would think if you really think Johnny Cash was this great person (not that he was good, but that he led an interesting life) you would want to find out more about him.

My point is this: I could have told you the story of Johnny Cash and June Carter before the movie came out and you wouldn't have cared that much. But when it is put in film format with actors you like and a soundtrack that has improved on the original, then, with all the fakeness of a film, then you like Johnny Cash!

Walk the Line is not a documentary, I know that, but I think most people consider it to be one.

Yada yada yada...

Can we write about something else? Has anyone seen Free Willy IV?

Thomas,
I deleted your last blog entry because the picture didn't work and the web site that the link was to was a little shady... I thought J. Alba was Nate's girl thought?!

Speaking of free willy earlier though...didn't Nate like the kid from that, or was if willy?

I ride a motorcycle... So I understand that you all make fun of my movie preferences, because everything else about me is just too cool for school!

Well Jesse has Superman pajamas, hard to beat that. Nate does have a tight bike though.

Jesse has "Superman pajamas"? Lucky!
