A Two-Four for today. Trying to find two songs that are actually the same but completely different can be quite a challenge. I think I have done it... you may vote, but I have already won:
When I saw the contendors in this weeks match-up I thought it would be all too easy a choice. This is a great Dylan song. Sure I like Rage too, but Rage doing Dylan? To be fair I decided to listen to Rage before voting, and I am writing this before I cast my vote, so I have no idea which way the vote is currently going. Thank you Ben, this was a good week!
I don't know if anyone knows that I vote on my own polls, but I do.
I actually voted for Rage on this one. I really like Dylan and I often like covers of Dylan songs better than the original (listen to Susan Tedeschi's "Don't think twice"). I really like how Rage took this one and totally made it their own while somehow keeping the Dylan spirit.
I agree with Ben on this. I think Dylan sings the song like he's been working on Maggie's farm. He's felt the oppression of her family and wants to escape the feeling of servitude. Sure there is deeper meaning to the song, but he sings it pretty straightforward. The irony is in the lyrics and his singing style. Rage takes it up a notch. The sing the same thing but they're singing it like they're slaves and every bone in their body is screaming out for freedom. In my opinion Dylan stands by himeslf (sometimes Tom Petty is there too) in his exploration of the human condition. What Rage has the ability to do is express the rawness, the basest emotions of our condition, and that's what they did with Maggie's Farm.
I think Dylan would like the group name "Rage..." but I like the subtlety of Dylan. You really do believe he's singing about working on Maggie's farm, but you can understand the undertone of his rage against the establishment of the government, church, military at the same time. I vote Dylan.

Can others who voted tell me what you liked about your favorite version? I'm truly curious.
