I hear that there is a movie version (or two... or three) of the Hobbit that will be released a few weeks before Christmas. Since most of the family is going to be here (Indiana) right after Christmas I would like to suggest that as a family we go up to Indianapolis to see this in IMax/3D/48 frames per second. If we do Christmas Monday then we could do Tuesday at IMax or vice versa.
My plan is for this to be the first time that Katie and I see it.
Okay, I know that it's Wednesday, but this was too good to wait to post. Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlins are quite possibly my favorite duo ever so what do you think... here's the Dave Rawlins Machine song, It Too Easy, covered by the legendary ZZ Top.
Something fun to try:
Remix your own Monday by playing video 1 (LCD Soundsystem's - New York, I Love You...) with Miles Davis' - Louis Malle's Elevator scene.
I recommend hitting play on Miles around the :32 second mark on New York...
Some of my favorite video games made this list, although I didn't see my two all-time favorites "Wings of Fury" and "Blades of Steel." What about you? What games are on your list?
We all new this was going to happen. It already happened. Lucas made I, II, and III and that should have never happened. He has remade IV, V, and VI and that should not have happened.
But, we should have known, since we all went to the theater and saw every single one of these. We gave him money. We condoned it. Its really in all honesty our fault that Jar Jar exists.
As I said over on facebook, I hope that Disney picks Stephen Herek to direct the next trilogy. I think his reputation speaks for itself... and I am serious. Bill and Ted, Mighty Ducks, and The Three Musketeers have the kind of humor and charm that the first three Star Wars films had.
He can just higher J.J Abrams or Chris Nolan to up his special effects.
I realize that I missed celebrating Leif Erikson Day by a few weeks, but Edwardo just posted something over on his blog which reminded me. Isn't it so much cooler to know that a viking discovered America instead of some whiny Italian guy...
You know those games you used to play in your head... on road trips, walking down the sidewalk, laying awake in bed? Apparently those original games you created are not that original...
This is a poster by Olly Moss for the upcoming Dark Knight. The poster will be on sale for one day only. It costs $40 here. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to get one, but this sure is sweet.
I've been out of the writing and reviewing game for a while but I heard something the other day that is forcing me back in. In this edition of 'Two-for-Tuesday' (the Wednesday, June 27 edition) we listen to the greatest singing duo, S&G, and one of the best bands of the last decade, Mumford & Sons.
This isn't really a fair machup, but, it'll be interesting to see who wins. Technically, it's not even a true 'vs' since Paul Simon sings on the Mumford version but Mumford makes the song their own and inject their own flare enough to make it stand-out from the original.
Daniel was disapointed when I got home from work yesterday... Mama voted for the wrong guy. Why would you vote for him when you could vote... well, watch for yourself.
Just so all you older brothers know... Candlebox will be playing at the Bluebird on May 22. I saw them about 6 years ago and it was pretty nostalgic... not a bad show if I remember correctly.
Here is a walk down memory lane...
I know Pop sent this out to most of you, but I thought it should be posted here for posterity's sake. The strange thing is I have this vague feeling that somehow I knew that Aunt Cookie was a daredevil but I had supplanted it with an image of a gentle lady riding around on a Goldwing.
I'm not Peter. I'm not a film critic. But there are certain things that, when I notice them, really annoy me.
Studios have been trying a lot of things lately to get more people interested in more films. Pre-releasing movies on iTunes before they're in the theater, viral marketing campaigns, etc. How then, in this era of media and public saturation and scrutiny does this happen: A new, A-list film (if Nick Cage really is A-list) releases a clip from the film, something to wet appetites and it has, to my untrained eye, a glaring cinematic mistake...

Did you catch it? It's called match-on-action. In the first shot the detective, played by that grumpy looking guy, is opening his folder (you can see it's partly open) and in the second shot (after the cut) it is closed again.
This is such a simple thing to edit correctly and it's such a simple thing to not put in the one clip that you release for promotion. My dream of becoming a Hollywood editor is alive again.
We're still awaiting the arrival of our son. After a visit to the doctor on Tuesday this week we were told that it's a strong possibility that Emily with have a C-section this coming week (probably sometime on Monday the 17th after our 10:30 am appointment). I'll keep you posted.
In the meantime, listen to this new song by The Shins.
